Take the first step
Recently Career Development Director Rick Rusch and I went on a tour of the beautiful resort, Royal Palms. It is located on the border between Phoenix and Scottsdale. Even though it is in the heart of the city, you feel as though you are in another world once you walk in.
The purpose of our visit was to tour the facility and visit with the Ron Younger the Director of Engineering, and RSI Graduate Eric Scott who is a HVAC Engineer. Ron has spent 22 years in the industry with the last 3 years at Royal Palms. Ron gave us a guided tour of some of this fabulous resort, destined to make us want to spend time by the pool!
What makes Eric’s story interesting is that he comes from a banking background. He wasn’t involved in maintenance of any type, but decided he wanted something different. Now, Eric works on many types of equipment at the resort including refrigeration, air conditioning, electrical systems, etc. Because Eric has a background in meeting customer service expectations, he is well suited for the high expectations of this luxury resort.
We had a great lunch and a great tour. The grounds were lush, making us forget that we were right in the middle of the desert. This industry is so diverse that there is opportunity for people with all types of backgrounds. The career is waiting for anyone willing to take that first step.
