Re: From my seat…

Hi, I’m Travis and I do admissions here at RSI. I just wanted to take a minute to talk about our student body and the things I see from my seat. From my seat I see that RSI has the greatest, most dedicated group of students in the valley. Everyone really comes together well. It’s like you come to school and get to hang out with your brothers and friends. I was in the Army and took training as a tank mechanic and the training here at RSI and the relationships formed with your fellow students ends up very similar to the relationships soldiers make in the service.

Everyone comes from different backgrounds, cultures, etc., and it ends up forming a kind of brotherhood…it’s almost like a fraternity. Some guys have experience and some guys don’t. Some guys understand things quickly and some guys don’t. Either way, you’ve got a “band of brothers” there to help carry you through. What one guy knows pretty well, you might not understand; but what you grasp well, some guys might not get. The point is that you get the chance to help each other along. The relationships gained here at school have turned into long lasting friendships, business partners, and contacts. The guys don’t realize it as they’re training but they’re actively strengthening they’re future in the industry by forming these relationships.

From my seat I also see the dedication and commitment our students share. Aside from coming from different backgrounds, most guys also have different motivations for taking training. Ranging from young guys graduating high school and looking for a career, on up to guys in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s trying to put a new life / career together. A lot of ‘em have families and kids and have rearranged their lives to take training and gain a new skill…it’s a big sacrifice to make but they know that they will have a better future…that means better salary opportunities, more security, and a better life for they’re families. From my seat I also see that sometimes admissions reps. get a bad rap for being the “salespeople” of the school. In fact, the students are the one’s who usually sell themselves on the school. Truly, admissions reps. don’t get paid any different if a student enrolls…we don’t get a bonus and we certainly don’t make a commission. It sounds a little cheesy, but because we don’t get bonuses or commission, our students success becomes our point of pride. Success for us comes when we see a student make a choice to change they’re life, set they’re goals, work hard, and achieve those goals.

I think the change of attitude and improved quality of life that you see in someone once they’ve realized their full potential is the coolest thing to see. It’s a step by step process and it takes some time to get through it all, but once you’ve seen someone accomplish the goal they set out to complete, it inspires you to want to do better in your own life…I think it’s a simple as not taking your life and abilities for granted. Making a change is as easy as a personal choice and a commitment to that choice…doing so will make a lasting difference in your life. …just some thought’s from my seat.
