One Size Doesn’t Fit All…..
I was watching our students go to class today and thinking about what it means to be a ‘student’ after high school in today’s world. It used to be that everyone had the same picture. Go through high school. Go to a community college or university. Go to work. The end. It used to be that if you didn’t fit in that picture – you didn’t fit.
But that’s not true today. After high school now, we have so many more choices. It’s more about who you are and what you like, than what someone else thinks you should be. There are a lot of great colleges and universities out there just waiting for the right people. The problem is, many who end up there are not the right people and become discouraged and drop out.
It’s time to take a look around and check out the options and opportunities. Maybe college is right for you. But maybe you are like thousands of others that are mechanically inclined and have other ideas. You are sick of school and don’t want to write another paper. You just like to fix things. That’s what schools like ours are about.
It is those people who like to fix things that keep the world going around. They are the important ones. They are the ones that get the calls for help. In air conditioning, heating and refrigeration, life threatening situations can exist when it breaks. It could be a senior care center and it’s 110 degrees outside. It could be a blood bank and the refrigeration breaks down.
Even when it’s not a life threatening situation it is still very important and repairs can be costly. A cold storage warehouse can have hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of food storage. If it breaks, they are going to want it fixed in a hurry, and they will pay dearly for it.
There is a place for anyone that likes to work on equipment, likes to help people, and wants to make money. But they just don’t want to take four years to do it. The students here have made the choice to enter into a great career.
